Research: this is the keyword. It is only thanks to research and experimentation that today man is able to fly. Research is a fundamental pillar of the Vittorazi Motors philosophy. Every day we are committed to conducting extensive research into every aspect of our engines, from design to manufacturing, to ensure that our products are at the forefront of the industry.
We are therefore proud that one of our products, the MOSTER185 PLUS MY22 and one of our best pilots and recordman Ramón Morillas, have been a fundamental aid to scientific research: it was like closing a loop.
For about 13 days, between the end of January and the beginning of February 2023, our pilot and record-man Ramón Morillas has been participating in a project promoted by the Colombian entomologist Carlos Prieto in order to study biodiversity in isolated moors in the Colombian Andes, the so-called Páramos (+3000m altitude), with the aim of discovering new and endemic species of butterflies and beetles. Paramotor pilot Vicente Palmero was together with Ramon on this trip.
“I have done many different types of aerial work, adventures and competitions and although I have participated in projects where the protagonists were wildlife, mountains or nature, I had never participated in a project with a truly scientific purpose in which the use of a paramotor as a mean of transportation was key to achieve an academic goal.”
Ramon met the biologist Carlos Prieto in 2021 during a flying exhibition in Colombia. The biologist was looking for a way to reach the Páramos faster and save many hours or even whole days of walking. The paramotor seemed to Carlos the solution he was looking for.
“The biologist asked me if it was possible to fly at 4000 meters in the Andean Cordillera with a paramotor, land in a certain spot and take off again. I told him it would be possible but that it would require a very good paramotor pilot, with deep knowledge of meteorology and being lucky with the weather conditions. In short, the adventure was served. I had spent my whole sporting life in those challenges.”
For challenges like this, psycho-physical preparation is essential and Ramón, who has set many records in his career, knows it well. An equally fundamental aspect was the equipment. For this new adventure, Ramon chose for himself and the whole group a Vittorazi Moster185 PLUS MY22.
“This is a super reliable engine. I know it very well, it has excellent carburetion for those altitudes. It always has the power that allows me to fly safely even at 3,000 or 4,000 meters. I used this engine to set the altitude record in Pakistan and to fly over the Sierra Nevada in Spain. It is an engine that I have easily taken to these altitudes.”
One day, in the near future, it will be possible to discover new species with the help of paramotor flying. Thanks to this expedition it was possible to experiment and confirm how, thanks to the performance of the Vittorazi engines, there are multiple uses of a paramotor: professional, recreational, sporting, acrobatic and finally educational. Thanks to Ramon a the Vittorazi Moster185 PLUS MY22, the paramotor has become a research tool.
